War Hawks &
Valiant Volunteers: Kentuckians in the War of 1812
2012 marks the start of the national bicentennial of the War of 1812, and
Kentucky played an extremely significant role in this story of conflict, often
called America’s “Second War of Independence.” This museum-quality exhibition
will explore the causes and consequences of the war, the major battles, and the
leaders and citizen soldiers who inspired song and legend. Graphic panels,
computer quizzes, and artifacts will illustrate the story. On an adjacent stage,
a 30-minute musical production, “Brave Hunters of Kentucky: Kentuckians in the
War of 1812,” will be offered.

United We Stand, Divided We Fall: Kentucky and the Civil
War +150
The sesquicentennial of the American Civil War continues, and many popular
elements from last year’s exhibition return, including graphic panels, Civil War
re-enactors, a giant floor map of Kentucky in the war, and several multimedia
learning stations. One major new element this year is the premier of the
Kentucky Historical Society’s Civil War HistoryMobile. The high-energy
mini-musical, “Kentucky’s Civil War Song: From Reveille to Tattoo” returns to
the nearby stage several times daily.
